Welcome to Phase Five: The Relationships That Shape Your Dream Life

Welcome to Phase Five, the final step in your Dream Life Blueprint. If you missed any part of the journey, you can catch up here: Intro, Phase One, Phase Two, Phase Three, Phase Four.

Now, Phase Five is different. It’s not just another step—it’s the thread that weaves through every phase, supporting you from start to finish.

Because here’s the truth: lasting, positive change is rarely a solo mission.

Dr. Richard Boyatzis calls them resonant relationships—connections built on empathy, mutual support, and a shared vision for growth. These are the people who “get” you, who challenge you with honesty (without the sting of judgment), and who keep you anchored when life tries to shake you off course.

Think back to Phase Two, when you interviewed people to assess your current self. Guess what? Some of those folks are already part of your Phase Five circle. But it doesn’t stop there. Your key relationships can include:

  • Friends and family who believe in your potential

  • Mentors and coaches who guide you with experience

  • And even “virtual mentors”—authors, podcasters, thought leaders who shape your mindset from afar

When I went through this process, I leaned heavily on Mark Divine and Jocko Willink. I’ve met Jocko a few times (we’re not swapping holiday cards or anything), but his influence was real. Their voices were in my head during pivotal moments, shaping my routines, values, and decisions.

I’d often ask myself, “What would Jocko do?”—and that question alone helped me course-correct countless times.

The big takeaway? Don’t limit yourself to your immediate circle. If your friends or family don’t reflect the future you’re building, that’s okay. Go find the people who do. Seek out voices that inspire you, challenge you, and remind you of who you’re becoming.

And who knows? Maybe one day, you’ll look back and realize I was part of your Phase Five. I’d be honored.

Final Thoughts

This wraps up our series on the Dream Life Blueprint. I hope it’s been eye-opening, encouraging, and maybe even a little life-changing.

But this isn’t goodbye.

  • Stuck somewhere? Hit reply—I’d love to help.

  • Making progress? Tell me about it. I’d love to hear your story.

  • Reaching your dream life? I can’t wait to celebrate with you.

Remember: Your dream life isn’t a destination. It’s a journey—and you’re already on the path.

All the best,
—Jeff

The One Leadership Shift That Transformed My Whole Team
Ownership Isn’t a Trait — It’s a Culture Years ago, I managed a team where two individuals stood out in stark contrast. One took ownership of everything. When problems popped up, they leaned in, asked hard questions, rallied their peers, and solved them—without being asked. The other? Just as smart. Just as capable. But always waiting for direction. They got tasks done—eventually—bu...
Why Your Best Managers Are Quietly Stepping Down
The Leadership Crisis No One’s Talking About Lately, I’ve had more than a few quiet, heavy conversations with tech managers. They’ve made a tough call: They stepped down. Not because they didn’t care. Not because they weren’t capable. But because they were overwhelmed. Their teams had grown. The pressure from above intensified. And their own energy, confidence, and clarity? Runn...
If You’re Doing Everything, Something’s Broken.
When Leadership Breaks, It Looks Like This. There’s a breaking point most tech managers quietly reach. Your calendar is packed. Your inbox is overflowing. You’re fielding every decision, every fire, every blocker. And despite all that effort, the team still isn’t moving the way it should. You’re holding it together—but only just. And somewhere, beneath the surface, the question hits: ...
